Waterproofing a shower area with Tilesafe

One of the biggest issues with any type of shower area (wet room or shower enclosure) is achieving reliable waterproofing. The problem is obvious. Bringing together the numerous products that go into making a shower, all made of different materials and each with dissimilar properties, makes the job of creating a watertight compartment extremely difficult.

Tanking (the action of creating an impermeable barrier to water in an area) is by no means a new idea, but the method of creating a tanked area has taken a major stride forward. Alternative methods such as slopping a bituminous goo all over the target area are time consuming and incredibly messy. Once applied you must wait until the product is fully cured. This can take days or even weeks! The problem is you won't know how successful your endeavours have been until you eventually use the shower properly. A little too far down the line to discover a problem don't you think? Remember, you only find out you have a leak when it's too late - when the wet patch appears! Water leaks can cause significant structural damage and can be a nightmare to locate and fix. Are you prepared to take the gamble?

Tilesafe membrane has a adhesive backing on one side and keying surface on the other (for the tiles to adhere to). Having applied the quick drying primer to the area you wish to tank (supplied in the kit), you simply peel away the backing and bring the two surfaces together. Once they touch a bond is created that will ensure a waterproof surface for years.
